If not for strikes Nigeria education sector would have collapsed.Government should please grant the requests of our lecturers. Nigeria University programmes has been bastardized due to the poor funding from the Nigeria Government, payment of arrears and many more.
Since the inception of the 4th republic (1999- till)  no Nigerian student has enjoyed his or her academic life without experiencing strike actions which in one way or another slowed down their academic achievement.
However, research has shown that  since 1999 till date, Nigerian universities have intermittently gone on  strike for over 14 times, now which has been accumulated to three years and 40months. In 1999(5months) ,  2001, 2002(2weeks) , 2003-2004(6months) , 2005(2weeks) , 2006(1week) , 2010(5months) , 2011( 59days) , 2013 (over 5 months), 2017 (1month), 2018-2019( over three months).
All these stike actions were caused by lack fund for the universities, belittlement of memorandum of understanding with the union in 2009 and  another in 2012, revitalisation, release of the forensic audit, and  all unpaid arrears.
Presently, the academic staff union of universities(ASUU) has embarked on 2 weeks warning strike and will later be indefinite if agreement is not being met, all because of the integrated payroll and personnel information system (IPPIS).
Unfortunately,  Asuu strike has led to the following since 1999 till date
- High rate of drop out students .
- Unwanted pregnancies
- Acquiring and spreading  of diseases like( HIV/AIDs) ,STD.
- Political thuggery.
- Armed robbery amongst students
- Bad gangs
- Lagging students in terms of academics
- Bad image for Nigeria tertiary institutions across the globe Etc.
Suggested solutions to curb the situation at hand.
Government should increase the annual budget of education, face education by increasing the teachers and the lecturers  salary, provision of adequate educational tools,  acceptance of ASUU, ASUP and COEASU proposal for University development and government should always meet with  ASUU representatives once in a year to ask for their needs.
The above will go a long way in solving the prolonged issues facing Nigeria Education sector and these without doubt will restore the glory of Nigeria Education sector. God bless Nigeria my beloved country.
