One of the very threat to Global,National and Local peace is Terrorism. It has been one of the most discussed issues as far as international Politics is Concern which no one has been able to find a lasting solution to it. The concept however is an Elusive one because there has not been any General Definition that can be attributed to it,every scholars has given their conception about it based on their own perspective and point of view.Be that as it may, one should understand that ever since the 9/11 attack on America in 2001 by the members of the All Qaeda which is regarded as the first modern Terrorist act the World has been in a State of Confusion on what dimension this act can be curbed and Managed. Although every attempt to curb this seems to appear not to be Adequate.It will however be apposite to define what the concept Terrorism is all about. What is Terrorism?
Terrorism is the calculated use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective. Terrorism has been practiced by political organizations with both rightist and leftist objectives, by nationalistic and religious groups, by revolutionaries, and even by state institutions such as armies, intelligence services, and police.
Terrorism was initially launched by a state or a nation against another nation that is of inferior to them with the sole aim of subjecting them to their will and wishes. In the late 19th and early 20th century, things have really turned around for Nigerians as we are being subjected to different attacks by the Niger Delta Militants and Boko Haram Insurgencies, one of which has been resolved Into a very negative yielding point. However one shouldn't forget that one man Terrorist is another man Freedom Fighter.
Are these two insurgencies really a terrorist act or a stage play by some ethnic group to prove superiority over another? Minds of millions of Nigerians have been troubled finding the best to this complex question based on facts that send these insurgencies into halfway grave.
The Niger Delta militant were presumed to be sponsored by Southerners and this was proven beyond doubts when the resolution which include the Creation of Ministry for this insurgency by the Federal Government of Nigeria were made with southern leaders. They are being privileged over millions of Nigerians who have their belief in a good Nigeria.
As at early 20th Century, a presumed Islamic Sect, based on their mode of dressings and communication emerge and was believed to erupt from the Northern part of Nigeria. The hideouts and mode of operation about Boko Haram was tracked and traced down to the North. How real was this? Are they demanding for the same privilege enjoyed by Niger Delta Militants? Are they actually campaigning against western Education? Were they used by Northerners to maintain Superiority? All these questions seem to be untraceable to a qualified answer except the last one, "Were they sponsored by Northerners to maintain superiority?
We do not help the situation even when the situation was helping us,Some assume that the first modus Operandi of Boko Haram were to destroy churches and Schools and they detest Western Education and Christianity but reverse is the case when Muslim are being chased away from their abode and western education were left untouched for so many months except for the case of Chibok Girls and the likes.
Our beliefs deceived us and made us suffer in the wrecked hands of Boko Haram Terrorist. If Southerners actually supported Niger Delta Militant while Northerners support Boko Haram, then the mentality of Yoruba will not be spared to wake up on a particular day and turn into a Arm fired terrorist.
However, one have to look deeply if the Fight against the Terror act being Initiated by the member of the Boko Haram which was believed to start action in 2009 is really a Myth or a Reality. One have to Wonder a country where millions have met their waterloo as a Result of the Sect attack still keep on recycling the Repentant Boko Haram. Those that kills our Brethren keep enjoying the dividend of Democracy in term of Good Food,Shelter,Clothing and host of others where our Brothers keeps suffering in the IDP's Camp.(internally Displaced Peoples).
The Price Nigeria is paying might drive the Country to its Destruction. As far as am Concern,the Sheer Ethnic and Religious sentiment in Conjugation with Terrorism will never make this Country,it will mar us. A Country where religious Organization like CAN and MURIC engage in an Action-Reaction process and never tend to come together to address a Common issue together will leave this Country in an absolute Quagmire. One should understand that Nigerian are biting more than we can Chew with the day to day activities of the Sect.
A Situation when a Country began to exchange Cash for the freedom of its Citizens from Boko Haram captives without reimbursing the Military Expenditure such Country should be ready to Pay the Price. In a Country where Debt has become a National Slogan,ransom is still the only techniques a Reasonable government can deploy for fight against Terrorism. One should note that Nigerian Soldiers are dying day in day out in War Zone as a result of inadequate Weapons to fight the Menace of Book Haram,why exchanging cash with Criminals when we have qualified Military personnel that can Fight them. Truth to be told,if the sect isn't being run by Some Cabals and Power that be in the Country,the menace of the sect should have been Curbed by now.
One should understand that the Price Nigerians pay over Terrorism,Ethnic Affiliation and Religion Sentiment is Underdevelopment.
Most times Issues that demand Popular support and Solidarity will become an Issue where sheer religion and ethnic sentiment come to Play. If we have to be blunt, there are many Boko Haram among the Civilians. Boko Haram members are among us living with us day in day out. Once an individual take his Religion sentiment and Sheer ethnic Belief than National Issue,One could regard such person as one.
To sum it up,While the menace of Terrorism,Religion sentiment and Ethnicity has caused more harm than the Good to this country,one should understand that for us to achieve a Better Nigeria and a Nigeria of our Dream all this have to reduce if its impossible to stop. Issues that require National Discussion should be treated without Sentiment and Favouritism, Religious association like CAN and MURIC should send a Unity in diversity not in Dichotomy to their members and Followers and teach good and right Values. The Hard Lesson and Price Nigeria has paid on the menace of Terrorism is too much and for this to be averted Nigerians need to speak in one voice regardless of the Ethnic and Religion Background.
